My Story

About Martin Alvarez, LMFT – Founder of Connection Matters Therapy

Hello, I’m Martin Alvarez, a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a deep passion for mental health, resilience, and well-being. Since 2014, I have dedicated my career to community mental health, working in diverse settings, including crisis mental health urgent care, specialized foster care programs, and leadership roles as a Clinical Director. My work has given me the privilege of supporting individuals of all ages—children, adults, and older adults—through some of life’s most challenging moments.

My journey from the Marine Corps to the mental health field was shaped by my own lived experiences, inspiring me to return to school and commit to a career centered on healing and growth. I understand firsthand the barriers many face in seeking help, particularly veterans struggling with PTSD, anxiety, and depression. This understanding has fueled my passion for developing nature-based mental health services, which integrate trauma-informed care, RCCS (Recovery-Centered Clinical Services), and social support to foster deeper healing.

At Connection Matters Therapy, my mission is to create a space where individuals can Reconnect, Recharge, and Renew through compassionate, personalized care. I believe that true healing happens through connection—whether with oneself, others, or the natural world—and I am committed to walking alongside you on your journey to well-being.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me exploring nature, embracing new adventures, and unwinding with my family. These moments remind me why I do what I do: to help others find balance, purpose, and renewed strength in their own lives.
